How To Create A Facebook Business Page


Creating a Facebook page for your business

Having a Facebook business page is a fantastic and also free opportunity to promote your business on Facebook and increase your online presence in general. It’s also a great way to connect with your audience and customers.

To create a Facebook business page you will need to have a personal Facebook profile and click “Create” then “Page” from the drop-down menu. From there you can follow the  instructions.

Although the process is relatively simple it can be a challenge if you’re not used to using Facebook or if you’re using it for the first time. It can also be time-consuming to manage and keep updated with fresh content.

In this article I am going to provide some useful hints and tips for getting your Facebook business page set up quickly, giving you more time to focus on your business.

1. Create Your Facebook business Page

You will need to login to your personal Facebook profile to create a business page. If you don’t have a personal profile now is the time to create one. Once logged in click on “Create” from the menu bar and then select “Page”.


Then you will have the option between two page categories – a “Business or Brand” or “Community or Public Figure.”

You’ll most likely be selecting Business or Brand here.


2. Add your Business information

Next, we tell Facebook what we want the name of the business page to be, this should always be the same as your actual business name to avoid any confusion.

Then choose a category that matches your business and reflects what you do.  The category list with start to automatically populate once you start typing, which is handy.

Once you’ve chosen the page name and category you’ll be asked to add your business address and contact numbers. Ensure these details are the same across any other online directories or social pages. You can choose to hide your actual business address if you prefer.


3. Upload your cover and profile photos

Most businesses use their logo as their Facebook profile picture and this is a great option however you can also choose an image that suits your business.

The minimum size for your profile photo is around 360 x 360 pixels. Make sure your image or logo is clear and easy to see (not distorted). Bear in mind that profile images are almost square in format.

Next, we can upload the cover image. This is the background photo for the page banner. This is a landscape format photo and needs to around 828 x 465 pixels in size. Again this photo needs to represent your business if possible.


Profile and cover photos can be a challenge to arrange when creating your business page. You do have the option to seek help with this as there are services like Fiverr where you pay for profile, cover photos or logos if required. 

There are also some other great websites like Canva which has tools to create Facebook cover and profile photos with the option of using templates. This can help to make the process easier! This is free, however premium services are available if needed.


4. Invite your friends to like your business page

Once your cover and profile photos have been uploaded you’ll be prompted to invite your friends to like your business page. These are your friends from your personal Facebook profile. You should invite everyone to like your new business page as you’ll want to add as many people as possible. This can also be accessed at a later date if needed by selecting the “…” then “Invite Friends” from the menu bar.

Once you’ve invited all your friends, you can also ask your friends to share your page.

5. Update or Add Additional Business details

Next, you can start to add or update some of your business information by selecting “About” from the left-hand menu bar.

This section gives the option to add lots of relevant details for your business, so take the time to complete as much as possible and ensure the details are current and correct.

You can also choose a username here, so try the business name to see if it’s available, if not you’ll need to add something similar.

You can also add details to the “Services” section on the left if required to update any services your business might offer.


6. Add a call to action button

Now you’ve added all your business information to your Facebook business page you can add a call to action button which sits below the cover photo. 

You can select which action you would like to button to perform, there are a few options- Make a booking, Contact you, Learn more, Shop with you or Download your app. Most people would have this set to contact however if you have a booking based business you might go for that option instead.


7. Engage

Your Facebook business page is now ready for some content! Engaging with your audience or customers is important, so try to make sure you post some content regularly to stay connected. Remember to add your Facebook business page link on your website.

I won’t be covering marketing on Facebook in this article as that is a pretty large subject and I’ll probably cover that at a later date.
